Due to changes in services and the industry itself it has been hard to convince anyone to commit to money to fund Walkabout even if they think this idea is great. More than a year of time and still coming up short with probable prospects.

Then there are the major budget shortfalls and cuts in funding from the state and federal level that is capping individuals services starting in July ’11. This leads me to seriously adjust estimated income and the shortfalls attributed to it.Day programs across the state are looking at cutting hours a day or days a week of services. Ultimately it boils down to less funding for each person. In this economy that is hard to deal with since everything else is rising in cost, from insurance to the cost of gas and supplies.

I have not given up yet, and continue to figure out how to make Walkabout Colorado work. If it is a totally adjusted day program idea and the weekend adventures or it is just the weekend adventures shaped like organized membership such as the Boy scouts I will continue to make changes and hope something comes across soon.

The beginning of it all, this is exactly were we are at. Not only the creation of this informational web site but the agency as a whole. As we are building, planning, and putting what we believe is a service that will give everyone a unique get away. Also the inspiration a much needed program for individuals who are diagnosed with Developmental Disabilities and TBI.
